The Deep Freeze, Part 5

No pictures today, pretty or pretty awful.

Just the acknowledgement that the cold snap has, well, snapped. The temperature will be up around 40 today. And tomorrow. And the next day.

If we did not have the significant snowpack down right now, our temperatures would be in the 50s. At least.

But we'll take whatever graces Mother Nature wants to dish out right now.

Wait...do you smell that? That scent in the air? Smells like...Spring?

The Deep Freeze, Part 3

This? Should promote a fair amount of thawing in my city. Of course, that will also mean a fair amount of flooding, especially in basements, and the occasional icicle coming down and shattering on the sidewalk, but that might be preferrable to hip-high snow mounds down the street.

The Deep Freeze, Part 2

This shot was taken just as the storm was getting revved up--the north branch of the Chicago River, as seen from the Central Street bridge in Evanston.
