Season's Screenings

In addition to having written numerous essays about this festive holiday season over the years, I've also had occasion to write about holiday TV specials--some beloved ("Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"), some not so beloved ("The Star Wars Holiday Special") and some that aren't so easily categorized ("Mr. Krueger's Christmas"). Check 'em out.

Thanks for re-posting these essays! Of course, I've seen "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" many times and, thanks to you, "Mr. Krueger's Christmas", but I've yet to see "The Star Wars Holiday Special". I can't imagine a crazier holiday program idea. How does something like that ever get green-lighted? One day my curiousity will overtake my better judgement and I'll borrow the damn thing from you. And then I'll ask you to pray for me.

You will need more than prayers at that point, JB. You'll need booze. The two times BB & I sat through it, we were both thoroughly liquored up--and it still left a mark.

Okay, that settles it: Christmas season 2011, I have a date to spend a Saturday evening with "The Star Wars Holiday Special" and a bottle of Grey Goose.
